Updated homemade protein blocks

Blitz:
  • 80g almonds
  • 125g date paste
  • 45g protein powder
  • 20g bitter cocoa powder
Short time + high speed so the mixer wouldn't overheat.
Drizzle in about 2 spoonfuls of honey, keep mixing until the mass separates from the container walls.
Dump into a double-layer of plastic wrap and press into a block shape.
Leave to cool down, store in fridge (for fast consumption) or freezer (for long).

We tend to do 8x the portion above because then the date paste amount works out nicely. That means 8x of measuring and mixing everything - experiments of larger quantities in the mixer at one time can't really be considered successes despite our magical Vitamix beast. Combined with the potential of overheating, the whole undertaking does take a while.
The type and taste of the protein powder, by the way, seems to not matter too much. Out of the tried versions of "chocolate beef", "vanilla beef", "milk tea whey" and "strawberry whey", I prefer the vanilla and strawberry over the other two, but to be honest, the taste of cocoa and almonds will be overpowering almost anything else anyway - just use a protein powder you happen to want to get rid of.

Cheers,
Hedi
