Mõnus mälestus

Üks väga muhe tadaa-õhtupoolik on enamvähem täpselt selline. Neljakesi ühikapõrandal tekikuhjas maas, sealhulgas geniaalne sõber, kes paraku suurema osa viimastest kuudest kontrollifriigist girlfriendi, kellele nähtavasti kogu seltskond tervenisti vastukarva on, tõttu kadunud või lausstressis olnud on. Pitsatellimus, seekord

Nope, I give up, completely unable to Estonian at the moment, switching or I'll never get back to work today, haha.

So one of the best final evenings I could imagine happened yesterday. Sad af, that the last people of the amazing group of friends I randomly got involved in / integrated into this year, are leaving. But at least there is now this memory to keep. The four of us, gathered in M(and L)'s room, half-packed bags lining the walls, pile of futons covering the floor and us sitting/stretched out amidst it all. Dai's pizza order went without a hitch for a change (the person to answer the phone wasn't the idiot, had the correct address written out, 1 hr wait, exactly as promised, my phone worked miraculously, no messups in the order (haha, because S wasn't there I guess), found the delivery guy immediately without having to run two times round the building) - marble cheese, tamanegi nashi. Oh, J was also there, behaving more-or-less like the awesome person I met those few times before K got here to take control of his every move and eliminate as many connections to the group as possible (because as it turns out, she pointedly hates us all and this country to boot.. yeah, ok, she's had some bad experiences here so some leeway is granted, but I do not believe that merits behaviours such as turning head the other way when meeting at the door to avoid saying hi... or never ever showing up to any gatherings taking place in the next room over or on the balcony of the room she is also staying in... or devising quite clearly ridiculous excuses to knock on the door and (without taking a step in or greeting anyone) get J to come and pay ALL the attention to her... okok, I'm rambling, but becoming aware of all of this after having had a pretty good impression at first (likely because back then I was pretty much a total outsider without any sort of influence, socially speaking), is just another instance in the long line of people betraying the trust I have placed in them and an easy one to let out and then forget... in any case, I'm super happy J managed to snatch both the beach day and yesterday to have a breather and hang out with his friends... the unravelling of the tension was plain to see.)
Right.. for drinks, juices, water, peanut-butter (straight from the jar, lmho, M) were consumed and if I know one thing, it's that when people have tons of fun in a party-type environment without a drop of alcohol, they are the RIGHT kind of people. What is more, same time as the meetup, Amber (a.k.a the crypto-game J and M and the rest of the team coded from scratch in the past half-a-year) was released on the testnet, hype-hype. However, after a few initial moves (for which I was by far the most enthusiastic), the communal decision was: all computers and phones away. Because no matter how interesting (and useful) it may be to see the process unfolding or answer questions by the now 500-people-large community (hihi, just remembered the comment from discussion about improving/growing the community "at least I have one good moderator"... feels good, especially since I've never done this before), the people there and then, are more important. As was the simple-yet ingenious cooperation board-game we played and after a few practice rounds, won with both the easy setup and right in the next try the difficult one - hanabi. To put that into perspective, no combination of four of the larger group has managed to beat the game in the last 6 months despite sometimes putting all-nighters into it, pinning it into the list of to-do-before-leaving-Japan of many... I played for the first time, L the second after a year or sth, demonstrating that the synergy (with one stroke of pure luck, thank you, lady) was amazing. Afterwards sorting through yet another pile of useables (leftover food, spices, paper, tissue boxes etc) left me with a ton of stuff that I actually managed to bike home with without killing myself or anyone else in the process. (Declined the salt, haha.. and the nori ofc.) Oh, and have half-a-pizza left over for breakfast/lunch/dinner today, yey!

Jumping topics. A while ago, Internet disappeared in lab. Turns out there had been a power outage in half the campus caused by... a criminal... gecko... getting fried somewhere if I understood correctly. Now, someone explain to me, why after the initial laughing till stitches over getting that e-mail, one of the first thoughts I had was "wonder how a fried gecko tastes like..."

Cheers,
Hedi
